No Kings released this cassette recently and I think it is real neat. Having traveled many times through Thailand and Cambodia has made me a lover of music from SE Asia.
There is a free download at their Bandcamp page here.
Taken from the page "This time last year Stephen Molyneux (Gigantic Blonde Boy, Horsehair Everywhere, Poet Named Revolver) was living in Thailand. Riding around on motorbikes, running through the jungle, playing noise shows at Bangkok art spaces, going on visa-renewing border-crossing adventures, all while the Red Shirts were stirring up more and more intense political unrest. On one of his excursions through Battambang & Siem Reap provinces in Cambodia, Molyneux made these field recordings on cassette. Expect “distant ancient rites of dawn, village sounds recorded from bicycle baskets, ensemble street performances, and wedding party music echoing through the ballroom of an abandoned mansion”. Edition of 40 pro-dubbed / imprinted red tapes with a cover photo taken in Bospo Village, Battambang by the artist."
Here is another Atlanta band that my friend told me about. Start/stop, noisy, loud, distorted awesomeness. I can't find much on them except Men's Room is made up of pieces and parts from other Atlanta bands with the same thought process to good music. (ex-thank god/vera fang/wymyns prysyn/etc)
On Feb 25 at The Earl there is going to be some old school Atlanta fun going on. Tweezer, Go-Devils and newcomers AkuYou (featuring members of past bands including Pineal Ventana, Centre, and I Almost Saw God on the Metro) are getting together for a night of craziness.
If you were around the music scene here in Atlanta during the 90's then you know what this is all about. Come one come all because this lineup will probably never happen again.
