Mens Room Free Download

Here is another Atlanta band that my friend told me about. Start/stop, noisy, loud, distorted awesomeness. I can't find much on them except Men's Room is made up of pieces and parts from other Atlanta bands with the same thought process to good music. (ex-thank god/vera fang/wymyns prysyn/etc)

This Will Be Fun

On Feb 25 at The Earl there is going to be some old school Atlanta fun going on. Tweezer, Go-Devils and newcomers AkuYou (featuring members of past bands including Pineal Ventana, Centre, and I Almost Saw God on the Metro) are getting together for a night of craziness.
If you were around the music scene here in Atlanta during the 90's then you know what this is all about. Come one come all because this lineup will probably never happen again.

AkuYou Interview and CD Review

BeAtlanta.com has posted an interview and cd review with my project AkuYou. The interview was done with Clara and I a few weeks ago.

Here is the cd review:

"Holy Hell. These girls just turned my brain inside out. This brand-new Atlanta band just let eight infinitely forceful songs loose on a split release with Grammal Seizure, a one man band from Maryland. AkuYou, consisting of Kim Chee and Clara Clamp, doesn’t seem to easily fit into any existing musical genre that I am aware of, unless pineal gland rock has already been coined. Using multiple effects and well thought out instrumentation, Kim shapes unique sound textures, which surround both Clara’s vocals and some pounding percussion that will certainly wake you up. Their song Bass Split is a perfect example. It flawlessly imitates the sounds one’s brain might produce while having a not-so-great experience on a strong psychedelic drug… plus drums. If this doesn’t sound fun to you then you need to just get over it and give it a try anyways. If you desire something a bit less ambient, their song SS has a bit more of a driving force, which really allows Clara to show you what she’s got. Or there is Henry, my personal favorite, which lies somewhere in the middle. Set aside the time to lie down, grab your biggest head-phones, concentrate, and experience AkuYou. You wont regret it."

Random Music

First up is Bossman. A band from Providence RI, active during the 90's. Ties to the defunct band Laurels. We once crashed at their place after a show with them. Really cool sounds, echoey and jerky.

Miss May 66 from Columbus OH. They helped us get shows in OH which was great. Nice people playing a sort of power pop I guess. Catchy songs. Not sure where they are now. I know the drummer went on to play with a few other band round Columbus.

Morsel from Ann Arbor MI. Awesome band. Around during the 90's. Great mix of controlled noise with melodies. They helped us get shows in and around that area. We played together many many times. Excellent band!

The Stimulants were a 3 piece all girl pop/rock band from here in Atlanta. Good vocals helped them stand out a bit in the city. Fun to watch. Not sure how long they were around for. We played with them at Dotties quite a bit. Wonder where Sue is?

Two Live Tracks from Lonesome

Lit Lounge March 14 2009 NYC ... Photo by Donny Lamonto

I have 2 free tracks from Lonesome. A great 4 piece Atlanta band who have played only a few live shows together. You wouldn't know that seeing them live. They are seasoned musicians who gel. Fronted vocally by Danette, Shane on guitar, Wade on drums and Mega on bass they control the stage they are on. Well written songs, excellent lyrics and they don't sound like everyone else out there. Definitely have an original and owned sound with a tinge of darkness.

Next Show July 4th at The Earl

The two tracks are off the soundboard, April 17th 09 at the Earl in E Atlanta.

Can Can ... Another Atlanta Band

Photo Rob Jones

Can Can is a band out of Atlanta who play fairly straightforward rock/punk/garage. They seem to be getting a lot of write ups based on the fact that one of the members is Jewish and he makes a point to talk about it in press and onstage. Whether or not that matters is totally up to you.

This is from their myspace blog:
"JEWS IN BANDS LISTEN UP!
If your Jewish and in a rock band, please read this...
I (Patrick from CAN CAN) am putting together a compilation CD of rock bands featuring Jews from the USA and Israelis.
This is a totally non-profit, DIY thing. I want to promote the kind of music that I like.
If you have any interest, just email me: *******@yahoo.com
-Patrick "

As far as the music goes ... nothing new here. But, the songs are catchy and will get your foot tapping at times. Listening to a few tracks in a row give me the feeling of being 15 again, going to shows at the Metroplex and not having a worry in the world.
Boreska Mines is a standout song for me which really takes me back to mid 80's punk that I used to listen a lot to.
